Soft Sanity

Soft Sanity was presented three days before the new year 2020, was a playful look into a future without people. Using claymation in video projections, a fabric tunnel, growth-like seating and rugs, costumed performers, and a large mound shape with human arms reaching out to interact with the audiences.

Visitors were invited to enter a video and textile installation for a durational performance where tactile sculptures come to life on Dec. 28th, 2019. This production features multimedia wearable works that engage in playful encounters with the audience. The set is slowly brought to life with colorful fabric, projections, and sounds. This performance is for all ages. Mimicking a petting zoo, visitors were invited to pet and touch the wearable works and performative sculptures and reminded that they were alive. Richard Vergez created a live soundscape for Soft Sanity using synthesizers and foley sound techniques.

A Map was given to the visitors before they entered the room and told: “don’t get lost.” Messages were handed out to visitors by the many hands reaching out of the Mound, a performative sculpture. There were fifteen messages in total.
